The impact of meaning of life, family support and institutional environment on successful aging among the institutionalized elderly : Focused on gender

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in perception in successful aging among institutionalized elderly, and to investigate the influences of meaning of life, family support, and institutional environment on successful aging by gender. The data were collected from 201 elderly residents in long-term care facilities located in D city. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between male and female elderly in successful aging. Specifically, elderly men showed significantly higher level of successful aging than women. In addition, the variables affecting successful aging were significantly different based on gender. Based on these findings, the implications for the practices and recommendations for further studies were presented.
